  4.                      DRIVESAFE HYPERTEXT - GUI VERSION

  7.   The GUI (graphical user interface) version of the DriveSafe Hypertext
  8.   v1.52 is now distributed in 2 ZIP files DS152G-1.ZIP & DS152G-2.ZIP
  9.  
  10.   A text based version of this hypertext is also available. Look for the
  11.   files DS152T-1.ZIP & DS152T-2.ZIP.

  13.   Version 1.52g:
  14.    ∙ is a minor update to v1.51g publicly released in February 1994,
  15.    ∙ corrects a few minor bugs,
  16.    ∙ will be replaced by v1.6 in the near future so that changes in 1994
  17.      to road law in Western Australia can be incorporated.

  20.   PLEASE NOTE:
  21.   ------------
  22.   The DriveSafe Hpertext is based on the 3rd edition of the DriveSafe
  23.   Handbook which is printed and published by the Traffic Board of Western
  24.   Australia. This hypertext is not intended to be a replacement for the
  25.   handbook.

  27.   Although the hypertext contains specific references to road law only
  28.   applicable in Western Australia, the general content of the material is
  29.   also consistent with that applied in other Australian states. However all
  30.   Australian users are advised to contact their local driver licensing
  31.   center or authorities for a copy of the driver education publications
  32.   applicable in their state.
  33.  
  34.   International users are advised that the material presented in this
  35.   hypertext may not be suitable for their specific use. These users should
  36.   also contact their local or regional driver licensing authorities for a
  37.   copy of the relevant driver education publications.

  40. REQUIREMENTS:

  43.   ∙ IBM PC or compatible (XT or higher),
  44.   . 640K RAM memory,
  45.   ∙ at least 1.2 megabytes of free hard disk space,
  46.   ∙ VGA or SVGA video monitor,
  47.   ∙ (optional) Microsoft compatible mouse.

  49.   The graphical version of the DriveSafe Hypertext has been designed to
  50.   run on a PC with a colour VGA monitor. It will run on a mono VGA using
  51.   16 shades of grey but should you experience any difficulties with this
  52.   please let us know (see below for contact details).

  54.   The hypertext can also be run from a floppy disk and we have kept it's
  55.   size down so that it can fit on either a 1.2 or 1.44 meg floppy. Please
  56.   note that because of it's graphical nature, the program will run slowly
  57.   when from a floppy disk.

  100. INSTALLATION UNDER DOS:
  101. ═══════════════════════

  103.   1. If you are updating from a previous version of DriveSafe,
  104.      please jump to step 3.
  105.  
  106.   2. Make a directory called DRVSAFE (or your favourite alternative)
  107.      on your hard disk.
  108.  
  109.   3. Change to this directory.
  110.  
  111.   4. a) If you have already extracted the contents of the 2 ZIP files
  112.         into a temporay directory, simply move all of the files into
  113.         this directory.
  114.  
  115.      b) Otherwise, copy the 2 ZIP files into this directory and extract
  116.         their contents using PKUNZIP v2.0.
  117.  
  118.      Note: If you wish to keep a copy of the archives, please ensure you
  119.            copy them to floppy disks before deleting from your hard disk.

  121.   5. When all of the files have been extracted, DriveSafe is ready to GO!.

  125. INSTALLATION UNDER WINDOWS:
  126. ═══════════════════════════

  128.   1.  Follow the Steps 1 to 5 for a DOS installation.
  129.  
  130.   2.  Add the provided icon file (DRVSAVE.ICO) to your favourite workgroup
  131.       and link it to the DRVSAVE.COM file in the DriveSafe directory.

  133.       Note: The DRIVESAFE hypertext must run in a full DOS screen.

  137. INSTALLATION UNDER OS/2:
  138. ═══════════════════════════

  140.   1.  Follow the Steps 1 to 5 for a DOS installation.
  141.  
  142.   2.  Then refer to your OS/2 manuals on how to install a DOS based
  143.       graphical program on the OS/2 Workplace Shell.

  147. EXECUTION:
  148. ══════════

  150.   UNDER DOS       ∙ Change directory to that where the DRIVESAFE files
  151.   ---------         can be found. (ie. CD C:\DRVSAFE)
  152.                   ∙ Type DSAVE and press the 'enter' or 'return' key.
  153.  
  154.   Windows & OS/2: ∙ Simply click the DRIVESAFE icon in the workgroup
  155.   --------------    folder or the Workplace Shell.
  156.  
  157.  This application is very user friendly and will behave in a sensible
  158.  manner under almost all conditions.  So go right ahead, explore, press
  159.  keys or use the mouse to navigate through the knowledge contained in the
  160.  hypertext.  As a guide, you can expect to keep discovering new things
  161.  about this hypertext for many hours.
